Producer Peter Block on The Ward
By Fredy on January 18, 2010 | Filed in: The Ward | With No Comments »

Here’s part of an interview with producer Peter Block for FearNet:

How are things going with John Carpenter’s The Ward?

It’s going great; John has been a very different kind of director to work with. He’s just used to doing things his own way, so the best thing I can do as a producer is just be around to help and stay out of the way. But now that we’ve gotten into editing it’s been a very collaborative process. I only have greater respect after working with him. It’s incredible to get to say I’m working with John Carpenter, it’s even more incredible that I can say it’s been a good experience. Better than I could have imagined. We look to finish post in the next couple of months.

Breck Eisner’s The Crazies is set to close Fantasporto, Portugal’s largest film festival:

LISBON — Michael J. Bassett’s dark, swashbuckling epic, “Solomon Kane,” will open the 30th Fantasporto, Portugal’s largest film festival.

The closer is Breck Eisner’s remake of George A. Romero’s 1973 thriller “The Crazies.”

The competitive section for fantasy pics includes Vincenzo Natali’s sci-fi clone pic “Splice,” Jaume Balaguero’s claustrophobic chiller “Rec 2,” Jon Harris’ subterranean horror pic “The Descent: Part 2″ and Park Chan-wook’s vampire tale “Thirst,” which was joint winner of the jury prize at Cannes…

Fantasporto runs Feb. 26 to March 6 in the capital, Oporto.

A french site called Canal+ has released an interview with John Carpenter, director of the upcoming horror The Ward starring Amber Heard and Danielle Panabaker.

He talks about his return to filmmaking and a few awesome on-set rehearsals with Amber Heard, Lyndsy Fonseca and Mamie Gummer are shown as well. Not much of Danielle though, just a couple of (not so good) shots of her walking with her co-stars.

Both The Crazies (coming February 26) and The Ward (coming September 24)   are considered interesting 2010 material at the pictures. Especially the latter, and that’s no surprise. Not only is the cast leaded by Amber Heard and Danielle Panabaker but the director, John Carpenter, is a horror legend!

Here’s a small quote coming from WalesOnline:

Following on from a year of big hits (stand up Star Trek) and equally big misses (we’re looking at you GI Joe), Matt Thomas takes a look at what 2010 has in store at the pictures…

SEPTEMBER

Ben Affleck writes directs and stars in edgy thriller The Town (10th) while horror maestro John Carpenter flexes his shock muscles with return-to-form The Ward (24th).

First news of the year! John Carpenter’s The Ward is now aiming for a September 24, 2010 release according to the official Facebook page of the film, we’ll have to wait for confirmation though:

John Carpenter returns to the director’s chair to create The Ward, which stars Amber Heard (Zombieland) and Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th) as Kristen and Sarah. Currently in post-production a movie still from the film is available that shows starlette Amber Heard distressed and pursued by the police. Heard plays the lead in the film and her character awakens in a psychiatric hospital with “no memory of her life before being admitted.” Things get worse for Kristen when the other patients in the ward begin to disappear one by one.

Three new (apparently not official) posters have been added to the gallery, as well as the first still featuring a terrified Danielle. The pictures are really small though, we will hopefully get them in high resolution very soon.

Additionally a synopsis for the film has been released:

Kristen, early 20′s wakes to find herself bruised, cut, drugged and held against her will in a remote ward of Chamberlain Psychiatric Hospital… The other patients in the ward, four equally troubled girls, offer no answers and Kristen quickly realises things are not as they seem…
